Initial contact
The process to commission a pet portrait is very simple. Drop me an email or call me and we can chat about your requirement and ideas, your preferences of the size and style. This personal service ensures that you get the work of art that you want.
Sending in your own photographs
Next step is to look through your photographs. I mostly work from customers own photos. Therefore, if you have your pet photos, then please collect a number of the best shots. These can be digital images or printed images and it does not matter how old they are. We will make a mutual decision about which photo we are going to use and the final details of the portraits, such as the colour of the background.
If photographs are being sent via the post, they need to be marked with your name and address on the back. All photographs will be returned in the condition that they arrived in. All printed images should be sent by signed for/ registered post to my address which you can find in the contact section. Digital images can be emailed directly to me. Email address is animals.portraits@gmail.com.
Arranging a Photographic Session
If you feel you do not have many suitable photos, then it is possible to arrange for a site visit with a photographic session. Please note that as these photographic sessions are becoming so popular. I will need to request that a contribution is made towards my time and petrol costs, if you live outside a 20 mile radius of York. This cost is charged at 20p per mile and just £10 towards my time. All photos are saved onto a customised disc and given along with the painting.
Deciding on the portrait size
Portraits may be any dimension you prefer, the table  below only gives general guidance. I paint on top quality artist grade sandpaper using the finest quality pastels ensure the vibrant colour and long life of the art work.
The costs of a portrait
Portrait costs are governed by the size of the portrait and number of subjects, as shown in the table below. Again, if a specific portrait is required, then this can be arranged. Please note that the price in the table doesn't include postage and framing. I send most of my portraits within the UK by Special Delivery, which offers a next day service and compensation cover for delay, loss or damage. Depending on size and weight this will range from £6.00 to £10.50 for unframed portraits, and from £10.50 to £24.50 for framed portraits. Larger portraits will be sent either by Standard Parcel post or ParcelForce, but compensation does not include damage of glass during transit. You are welcome to collect your portrait from me if you prefer, or arrangements could be made for me to deliver your portrait to you.
Payment Details
When placing your order I will require a 15% deposit before starting your portrait. I accept payment by cheque or direct bank transfer. Cheques should be made payable to J Cui. Alternatively, you can pay by Paypal. I will request the final balance before I send your portrait to you (cheques will need to clear before I send your portrait).
